National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)

Membership to the NJHS is both an honor and a responsibility. Members must maintain a 85 grade point average. In addition, the constitution expects members to attend meetings if called for, and to perform individual and chapter service projects during the year. Selection to NJHS is a privilege not a right. Students do not apply for membership in the NJHS; instead they provide information to be used by the local selection committee to support their candidacy for membership. Membership is granted only to those students selected by the Faculty Council in each school. This is not an election, nor is membership automatically conveyed simply because a student has achieved a specified level of academic performance. NJHS is more that an honor roll. The Waxahachie chapter emphasizes the importance of leadership, service, citizenship, and character. All of those will be carefully evaluated during the selection process.

The purpose of the National Junior Honor Society is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate desire to render service, to promote leadership, to develop character, and to encourage citizenship. Students must complete a membership selection process packet submitted to the NJHS Chapter Adviser on or before the required deadline each year. Seventh and eighth grade students who have a cumulative grade point average of 85 or higher and who complete the membership selection process on or before the due date are considered for membership. Members are inducted in the spring semester.

NJHS Meetings & Other News
Please make sure to be completing your community service hours for the year. You are to have 10 hours logged per semester for a total of 20 hours for the year. Make sure to have at least one picture of one of the services you are performing throughout the year.

NJHS will meet once a month. Students will be informed through Remind and announcements about when the meeting will occur.

Community Service Log
NJHS members are required to complete a minimum 20 hours of service. Community service must be performed outside the school day. Students must submit a completed community service form by the due date. NJHS will be given several opportunities to get hours as a group at different events throughout the school year, but it is the student's responsibility to make sure that he or she has all 20 hours completed.
